Ivory Coast’s RHDP Gains Dominance in Parliamentary Vote
These preliminary figures were disclosed on Monday by the Independent Electoral Commission, which confirmed the party’s majority.
As reported by the commission, from a pool of 8.5 million eligible voters, participation stood at 35.04%.
The rival Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire-African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA) managed to obtain 32 seats, while independent contenders captured 23 seats. Smaller political groups, such as The Ox – Victory for Development party, succeeded in winning a single seat each.
The commission acknowledged scattered disturbances, noting that in Marcory commune, violent actions resulted in the destruction of ballot boxes at five polling centers.
Nevertheless, it emphasized that these incidents did not compromise the overall credibility of the election.
In line with the electoral regulations, candidates and parties are granted five days to submit any objections. These will be reviewed before the nation’s highest court announces the definitive results in the coming days.
This parliamentary contest followed the October presidential election, which was won by the sitting head of state, Alassane Ouattara.
Meanwhile, the African Peoples' Party – Cote d'Ivoire (PPA-CI), led by former President Laurent Gbagbo, chose to abstain from participating, citing unfulfilled requirements for “free, fair and credible polls.”
