Ivory Coast’s RHDP party secure majority in parliamentary elections
Voter turnout was 35.04% of the 8.5 million registered voters. The opposition Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire-African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA) won 32 seats, while independent candidates secured 23. Smaller parties, including The Ox – Victory for Development party, won a single seat each.
The commission reported isolated incidents of violence, notably in the Marcory commune where ballot boxes at five polling stations were destroyed. Officials stressed that these events did not compromise the overall integrity of the election.
Candidates and parties have five days to file complaints, which will be reviewed before the final results are officially proclaimed by the country’s top court. The parliamentary vote follows the October presidential election, which was won by incumbent President Alassane Ouattara.
The African Peoples' Party – Cote d'Ivoire (PPA-CI), led by former President Laurent Gbagbo, boycotted the elections, citing conditions that they said prevented free, fair, and credible polls.
